Using Hookmark With nvUltra

nvUltra is a searchable, portable, MultiMarkdown note-taking app developed by Brett Terpstra and Fletcher Penney. As of 2022-04-10 nvUltra is still in private beta phase.

Hookmark enables you to link nvUltra notes to and from anything that is also linkable.

Copy Link, Copy Markdown Link and Hook to Copied Link

By default, Hookmark’s Copy Link and Copy Markdown Link in nvUltra return links of the form nvUltra://://. You can paste those links anywhere.

Alternatively, you can make Hookmark generate hook://file/ URLs by using this command in the Terminal app:

defaults write com.cogsciapps.hook integration.nvultra.URL.scheme hook-file

if you want to revert to nvUltra URLs, you can do this:

defaults write com.cogsciapps.hook integration.nvultra.URL.scheme nvultra-default

That won’t change the URLs of prior notes of course. If you change URL schemes, then to find items previously hooked to the given note, you can use Hookmark’s search command.

Hook to New > nvUltra

You can use the Hook to New command to create a new nvUltra note that is hooked (bidirectionally linked) to the current resource.

With integration scripts version 209 and later, you might need to click in the new nvUltra note in order to type in it.

Reveal File in Finder

If you use the default, nvUltra://, URL scheme, then to reveal a note in Finder you should use nvUltra’s Reveal File in Finder (⌥⌘R) command, available in the sidebar.

But if you use the hook://file/ URL scheme, then you should use Hookmark’s own Reveal File in Finder command.

Search for nvUltra bookmarks in Hookmark

To find nvUltra:// items you’ve processed with Hookmark, simply:

  1. Invoke Hookmark.
  2. Enter search mode (with ⌘F or a click).
  3. Type: url:nvUltra and hit the Return key.

Your nvUltra bookmarks will show up in the search results.
